JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader and First Vice President Riek Machar has refuted allegations that he is providing support, in form of men, to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan.

Labeling the claims as “baseless and malicious,” Machar asserted his unwavering commitment to peace and stability in the region.

The allegations surfaced in a social media post originating from Talib Peter, the office director for presidential advisor on security affairs Tut Gatluak.

Peter claimed that Machar had been supplying troops from the Nuer community in Unity State to RSF leader Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

Responding to these accusations, Machar’s Acting Press Secretary Puok Both Baluang expressed deep concern and surprise.

“The accusations made against Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon are baseless, malicious, and aimed at tarnishing his reputation,” Baluang said.

Baluang emphatically denied any involvement of Machar or his forces in providing support to any conflicting parties in Sudan.

The opposition official reaffirmed Machar’s unwavering commitment to seeking peace and stability in the region, emphasizing his dedication to maintaining good relations with Sudanese political and military entities.

The statement issued by Baluang categorically dismissed the allegations as false and misleading, underscoring Machar’s commitment to non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries.

“Such unfounded allegations will not deter Dr. Machar from his ongoing efforts to engage positively with all Sudanese parties to bring peace, security, and prosperity to neighboring Sudan,” Baluang added.
