JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President and leader of the main armed opposition group, SPLM-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has this afternoon met envoys from European countries and discussed bilateral relations between South Sudan and the continent.
In a statement, Machar’s office said the First Vice President and the envoys also discussed an upcoming summit between the African Union (AU) and the EU which the envoys said would be important for South Sudan.
“The First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar, and representatives of the European Union (EU), met today and discussed relations between South Sudan and the EU,” Machar’s office said in the statement seen by Sudans Post.
“The meeting with the EU envoys also discussed the upcoming Summit in between the African Union (AU) and EU at the end of September for the Ministerial level, and at the end of October for the level of the Heads of State and Government,” it added.
The statement further added that matters “pertaining to South Sudan are expected to feature in the Summit.”
