JUBA — South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has on Monday met the outgoing German Ambassador to South Sudan Manuel Muller who visited him at his office in Juba, according to a statement by the first vice-president’s office.
According to the statement, the two men discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement with focuses on chapter two (2) of the 2018 peace agreement which concerns the security arrangements.
“Today, Monday, 26th July, 2021, H.E the First Vice President, Dr Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, met in his office with the outgoing German Ambassador to South Sudan, H. E. Manuel Muller, who paid a courtesy call to the First Vice President. Ambassador Muller also came to inform on his imminent transfer after having completed his mission in the Republic of South Sudan,” Machar’s office said in the statement.
“The meeting discussed the state of the signed Revitalised Peace agreement with emphasis on Chapter (II); the security arrangements,” the statement adds.
According to the statement, Machar also “briefed the German Ambassador on the progress made so far as well as the challenges which are still being faced in its implementation, including the command structure and graduation of the unified forces.”
“The meeting also discussed issues to do with establishment of the Hybrid Court for South Sudan and that the cabinet in a resolution has directed the minister of Justice to lead a technical committee to engage with the AU [African Union] to establish the Hybrid Court for South Sudan.”
“H.E Dr Machar has called on the international community to support the peace agreement by providing non-lethal items such as food, medicine, etc. He added that the security arrangements is the backbone of the overall revitalised peace agreement.”
