JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has on Monday met the country’s minister of roads and bridges Simon Mijok Mijak who discussed with him the progress being made in road construction across the country.
In statements to the South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), minister Mijak said he briefed Machar on all the progress being made in different road construction being made in the country and also on the urban development inside Juba town.
“This morning, I met His Excellency the First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny, to brief him on the status of roads in the country and mostly on progress on work at Juba-Bor and also the rehabilitation of Juba – Nimule Road and the progress of urban development in Juba including Luri Bridge as well as the opening of roads from Juba – Torit – Kapoeta to our borders with Kenya,” the minister said.
“I also briefed him on the preparation of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges for the 10th anniversary celebration and we are planning to launch Juba – Bor Road which the contractors have already started the construction and the opening of the Bor Road up to Bor and in fact, it’s now reaching Mangala town,” he added.
All roads being build were supposed to connect all regions of South Sudan. But it seems like the current roads are all heading into one region or two. Greater Upper Nile is left to trekking!
