JUBA – First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny and leader of the main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) is not being allowed to leave the country even to seek treatment, according to the group’s deputy chairperson Nathaniel Oyet.

There have been rumors of Machar being denied trips outside the capital Juba and the First Vice President confirmed on 30 July during the graduation of the first batch of the unified forces that he was being confined to Juba and not even allowed to see his forces.

Oyet now says First Vice President Machar has not been allowed to represent the country in international or regional meetings and is only allowed to go to the Church in Kator where he prays, but cannot also be allowed to seek treatment abroad.

“The unanswered question is why the vice president who acts in the absence of the president, whether he (president) is in or outside the country, cannot be delegated to represent the president,” he said. “Why he has not been able to move beyond Juba,” Oyet said as quoted by Radio Tamazuj.

“The furthest Riek Machar went could be Kator Church. For two or three years now, he (Machar) has not moved outside the country. When he is sick, he does his treatment in Juba while ministers and vice presidents go for medical checkups and treatment outside the country,” he added.

Oyet who is also the Deputy Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly said Machar’s confinement arise from lack of confidence from President Salva Kiir Mayardit and so casts doubt among international community about the implementation of the agreement.

“All these compounds the level of lack of confidence in what we say to the world. The world hears what we say, we are now implementing the peace agreement and we are now working together but they see different dispositions,” Oyet said.

“The citizens are also seeing and they are questioning and we are failing to give an answer. Even now I am failing to give an answer. I am thinking aloud because the answer rests with one man who is the President who is the chairman of the SPLM in government,” he added.

Why should people complain about Riek Machar’s confinement. The peace agreement was a surrender agreement for him to come home. The agreement never addressed the core issue of governance which was a federal system for acceleration of development in nation building for national cohesion. The country is in waste with road infrastructure and socio-economic development at the mercy of thieves. None bothers about national unity but self-interest.

    Nathaniel Priniro Oyet is joking.

look if you attacked palace, you will be killed immediately by the government but because South Sudan is the lawless country this is why you guys seeing Dr. Riek Machar Teny still allowed to work as a vice President but in reality, he should be jailed for 100 years.

the J1 Presidential palace attacked will remain bad records for all Dr. Riek Machar Teny’s family in years to come. I think President Salva Kiir is the man of peace otherwise, in some countries it is not tolerate because the Presidential palace is the heart of the country. some African leaders are blaming President Salva Kiir that, he is not following law because why not putting him in jail in the first place but because South Sudan is a tribalism nation this is why President Salva Kiir forgive him.

Trust me or not, Dr. Riek Machar is a peaceful men, if election comes in transparent manner he will get reward 90% percent of course nobody is hundred even the rulers who claim that they will built the permanent house in Ji one day, they will be out. Money is not the only solution to oppress people of South Sudan. I believe if the people in power continue to oppress other South Sudanese this country will never experience peace. it is not Dr. Riek Machar who is obstacle for the master plan you have developed to ruled the Country but many Dr. Riek will come untill you will be tired of oppressing South Sudanese People.
