JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President and leader of the main armed opposition group, SPLM/SPLA-IO, Dr. Riek Machar Teny has dismissed the SPLA-IO spokesman General William Gatjiath Deng a day after Sudans Post published a damning audio recording in which the opposition spokesman uncovered details of his recent trip to Juba.
In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Acting Press Secretary of the First Vice President and SPLM-IO Director of Information and Public Relations Puok Both Baluang said General Gatjiath was removed from his position as the SPLA-IO spokesman saying he has been reassigned to the General headquarters.
“In reference to the mentioned subject, the SPLM/SPLA (IO) would like to inform its members and the public at large that Brig. General William Gatjiath Deng has been reassigned to the SPLM/SPLA (IO) Headquarters with effect from 9th July 2021,” the statement reads in part.
