JUBA – South Sudan’s former deputy minister of interior Mabior Garang De Mabior has claimed that First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny’s group, SPLM-IO, is behind the tactical delays for frustration of the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement.

He claimed in a statement published on his Facebook page that the SPLM-IO under Machar has tactically shifted to use the ‘give-peace-a-chance’ slogan to confuse the people of South Sudan while working under the table to frustrate the implementation process of the revitalized peace deal the group signed with President Kiir in 2018.

“It is the SPLM-IO (Juba), which is responsible for frustrating the implementation of the Security Arrangements. The implementation of Chapter II Permanent Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements and the implementation of the Agreement in general, is not in the interest of the FVP and the Luak Ltd,” Mabior claimed.

“They are now trying to use the concept of ‘peaceful transfer of power’ as their next populist slogan in a long line of slogans to confuse Junubeen. From, ‘we are fighting corruption’, to ‘we are democrats’, to ‘Federalism’, to ‘give peace a chance'”, the former government official added.

He said “The latest populist slogan is ‘peaceful transfer of power’. They do not mean it. It is just a populist slogan like the rest. The SPLM-IO (Juba) is not interested in peace and stability in our land. They know they are not popular and elections will send them home.”

“This is why today they are afraid of elections; it only has value as far as it can be used as a populist slogan. The barbaric status quo in our country -communal war- is their political economy,” he added.

He claimed that the SPLM-IO “cannot survive without this mischief. There is now an opportunity for implementation of Security Arrangements in the Kit Gwang Declaration. Let us organize and mobilize to send these unpopular misleaders home in 2023.”
