JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition leader, Dr. Riek Machar Teny, has reportedly told his forces in Central Equatoria state’s Moroto training centre to vacate the place following repeated attacks from government-allied forces.

“Yes the First Vice President and the Chairman and Commander in Chief has told the forces in Moroto to vacate the centre and look for another place until they solve this issue of continued attacks against the SPLA-IO forces there,” one source close to the prominent opposition leader told Sudans Post this afternoon.

Gov’t forces ‘repulsed’

In a statement, the SPLA-IO spokesman Brigadier General William Gatjiath Deng has said that the main armed opposition group’s forces have destroyed the attacking forces of General Moses Lokujo who defected from the group in September.

“Today this morning at around 6:30AM, East African Time, Adijo and Moroto the unified training center becomes under heavy attacks by the SSPDF Forces. The fighting was on, and said to be heavy when it was reporting. As a result, the SPLA (IO) forces responded more professionally and excessively stormed the rogue regime’s forces, repulsed, scattered in disarray around the bushes of Moroto,” Gatjiath said in a statement extended to Sudans Post on Friday.

“Unfortunately, one comrade lost live plus three others sustained minor injuries from the SPLA (IO) side. Whereas, on the side of the (SSPDF) left behind their backs, a squad of soldiers exposed to direct sunlight and were all identified with their uniform.

“Moreover, the SPLA(IO) leadership has learned and describes the perennial attacks from the regime as a serious violation which still impeding the process and would finally marks the collapse of the already fragile peace agreement that almost left only some months of its expiration.

“The SPLM/A (IO) as a movement, has been committed to peace but shall remains vigilance, and ready in all times, to defend its territories against all insidious assaults.”
