JUBA — South Sudan’s First Vice President and main armed opposition leader Dr. Riek Machar Teny is reportedly planning to replace the country’s minister of health Elizabeth Achuei, according to a senior opposition official who has knowledge of the plan.
Achuei was appointed in May when President Salva Kiir Mayardit reconstituted the Transitional National Legislative Assembly as per the revitalized peace agreement signed in 2018 by him and Machar.
Speaking to Sudans Post this morning, a senior opposition official who is close to the powerful first vice president said Machar nominated Achuei to parliament because she is to be replaced.
“You know Honorable Achuei was appointed last May as a member of parliament for Warrap state on the ticket of the SPLM-IO by the first Vice President. This is because she will be replaced by someone else,” the official say.
The official however said Machar is still in consultation with his circle for a replacement who he said will come from Bahr el Ghazal region.
“Currently, not one has been identified and very soon, when the leadership complete the consultation, one person who must be from Greater Bahr el Ghazal region will be named for that position of the minister of health,” the official added.
Bring the right person from Greater Bahr el Ghazal Region to replace minister of health Mrs. Achuei.
