JUBA – South Sudan’s First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has met the deputy governor of the country’s Upper Nile state and the two discussed the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and the bipartisanship cooperation in the state.
In a statement, the office of the first vice president said the meeting was held on Thursday and the deputy governor who is an SPLM-IG nominee briefed the main armed opposition leader on the implementation of the 2018 peace deal.
“His Excellency Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon has met, in his office, today Thursday 29th July 2021, with Deputy Governor of Upper Nile State, Hon. James Tor Monybuny. In his remarks to the media after the meeting, Hon. James Tor Monybuny said, he briefed the First Vice President on the general situation of the state,” the statement seen by Sudans Post reads in part.
“Hon. James Tor Monybuny said, they discussed with His Excellency the First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, issues pertaining to the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict of South Sudan (R-ARCSS) in Upper Nile State, in his capacity as the State’s Deputy Governor and SPLM Interim Chairperson,” it added.
It then said Monybuny “assured the First Vice President of his commitment to work jointly with the SPLM (IO) and other parties signatories to agreement in Upper Nile State, towards ensuring that peace prevail in the state.”
“Hon. Monybuny has also reassured the people of Upper Nile State, the seriousness and determination of the state leadership about the implementation of the peace agreement, provision of services and restoration of social fabric.”
