Machar’s party launches state secretariat in Central Equatoria State

South Sudan’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has launched a state secretariat in Central Equatoria State, just less than a week after the group launched its office in the restive Jonglei State.

JUBA – South Sudan’s main armed opposition Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny has launched a state secretariat in Central Equatoria State, just less than a week after the group launched its office in the restive Jonglei State.

The event, which was blessed by the SPLM-IO deputy chairman Oyet Nathaniel, aims at galvanizing the people of Central Equatoria State ahead of the general elections slated for end of transitional period two years from now.

Speaking during the event, Nathaniel who is also the first deputy speaker of the Reconstituted Transitional Legislative Assembly (R-TNLA) said the party is on track in transformation from war to peace, stressing the need for political space in the country.

For her part, SPLM-IO Chairperson of National Committee for Security and Defense Angelina Teny said the government must provide security for political parties in order to exercise their rights to assembly and the right to speak out.
