Makuei reiterates blames against governors for delaying state gov’ts formation

JUBA – South Sudan’s information minister and government spokesman, Michael Makuei Lueth, on Friday reiterated blames blames against the country’s governors over failure to submit the list of nominees for subsequent formation of state and local governments.

In an exclusive interview with Sudan’s Post on Friday in the capital Juba, the senior government official said some governors have not yet submitted their list that would allow for formation of the long-awaited state governments.

“The delay is that the governors don’t submit lists in time and up to there are some governors who have not submitted their list,” Lueth said.

He said the state governments will be formed once the governors submitted their lists of nominees.

“It is after all these submissions by the parties that the list will be harmonized and the government will be declared. But up to this morning, some of the governors don’t present their list,”  he stated.

Earlier this month, the collegial presidency announced in a statement that state governments will be fully established before 15 February, which has now elapsed without the promise.

The Reconstituted Transitional Government of National Unity (R-TGoNU) formed in February last year is  yet to appoint state advisors, ministers, commission chairpersons, and members, county commissioners, state legislative assembly, and county council representatives.

The parties in the coalition government are also yet to complete the training, and graduation of the unified forces that is to take charge of the security during the three-year transitional period ending 2022 when South Sudan is expected to hold elections as well as Hybrid Court and other transitional justice institutions provided for in the revitalized peace agreement.
