JUBA – South Sudan information minister Michael Makuei Lueth has told youth he said are being incited against the government over its river dredging initiative by Minister of Youth and Sports Albino Bol Dhieu that dredging is science, but “not politics.”

Makuei was speaking during the launch of public consultation on water management at freedom hall in Juba on Monday in which Bol urged the young people not to accept dredging without the conducted of feasibility study to inform the government about the project.

“For the youth, please give chance to the experts, not to your minister. The minister of youth is a minister of youth and is calling upon you on whatever,” Makuei who is also the official government spokesman said.

“This is not politics, it is science and if it is science, then we must follow science, this is what I am saying,” the senior government official added.

Makuei indirectly criticized the organizers who he said haven’t talk of anything related to dredging which he was expecting to hear when he came to the launch, and urged those against the project to propose a solution, and not to oppose without presenting an alternative.

“Lastly, I really appreciate the presentation made, even though I actually came today because I was expecting to be hearing something about the dredging and what are the possibilities and what are the opportunities and what are the solution,” he said.

“Propose solution for the dredging and I also need to be informed as to whether dredging took a different meaning or is it the same I know,” he added.
