JUBA – The Secretary of Information of South Sudan United Front/Army, Chol Duang, who also serves as the press secretary of General Paul Malong Awan, the former army chief turned rebel leader, has said he is resigning as the group.
He said in a social media statement that his “letter of resignation from SSUF/A is loading” and urged social media followers to follow his page where he said he will publish his resignation letter.
Chol’s resignation comes less than three months following the resignation of Nyamach Nyang Chol, his predecessor who had accused Malong of lack of vision and blurry reasons behind his fight against the government of South Sudan.
Nyamach days later arrived in Juba and instantly announced her decision to join the ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) faction led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and has since remained in Juba.
Chol’s resignation also comes as his boss Malong is still in Rome, Italy where he has been engaging government delegation along-side his ally Pa’gan Amum Okiech, the leader of the Real-SPLM who co-chairs with him the South Sudan Opposition Movements Alliance (SSOMA) faction that broke away from General Cirilo late last year.
