Speaking to Sudans Post, head of the Kuajok CID said the suspect is in custody. He blamed the incident on a growing disregard for the rule of law among civilians.
“Most of the people are ignorant of the importance of rules of law. And nobody could seek justice through violence and go scot free. This is unbecoming,” he said Wednesday.
“Open cases and you could get justice but not violence or killing your brother as it is the case now with a suspect we are investigating,” Kuot said.
The officer said the region is grappling with a surge in violent crimes, including communal fighting and revenge killings.
“Most of the perpetrators we are holding are suspects accused of murderous cases and those cumulate from communal fighting, and revenge killing” he revealed.
He warned that those found guilty of such crimes face life imprisonment.
“Being lawless is a crime and it would lead to life sentences which are capital punishments in the rule of law,” Kuot said.
Warrap state, like many others in South Sudan, has been plagued by cattle raids, intercommunal fighting, and revenge killings.
Authorities have struggled to disarm civilians despite efforts to curb violence.
In a separate development, a 60-year-old woman died on Monday after her house collapsed on her in Aweil, South Sudan, an eyewitness said.
James Mou, a neighbor and Nyalath payam administrator, told Sudans Post today that the woman had been living in a temporary shelter on her farm with her young daughter due to heavy rains.
“The old woman is my own neighbor, she travelled and lived in the tukul with her young daughter who was looking after her while on the farm, far from the house in Apada, near Aweil. Due to heavy downpours for days, the house fell on her and the houses are so scattered as they living in the field or farms so nobody immediately came for her aid,” Mou said.
In a separate incident on Monday, a teenage boy died in a motorcycle accident in Aweil Town.
Authorities urged residents to exercise caution during heavy rains and to check the stability of their homes. They also warned of increasing road accidents due to poor weather conditions.
