LEER – A local court in Leer County of South Sudan’s Unity State on Wednesday sentenced a 32-year-old man to three years in prison for stealing two cows and transporting them to Koch County.
The court also ordered the man to return the stolen cows.
Kuol Kai, head of the local court in Leer County, confirmed the sentence to Sudans Post in an interview on Wednesday afternoon.
“We sentenced the man to prison after he took two cows from Leer town to Koch County two months ago. He also committed crimes against the community in Leer and Koch counties,” Kai said.
“The local court sentenced the man to prison for three years after he was involved in cattle raiding. We don’t want this incident to happen in our community again, and this sentence is a deterrent example to other criminals in our county,” he added.
The cows were returned to their owner in Leer town. An accomplice to the convicted man also received a three-year prison sentence.
The cattle theft incident occurred at block two of Juong Payam. The cows were exchanged at the border of Mayendit and Koch counties.
