MAYOM – A motorcycle accident in Mayom County of South Sudan’s Unity State on Wednesday claimed the life of a 32-year-old man.

The accident also injured the motorcycle driver, who was flown to Juba for treatment.

According to Unity State traffic police, the accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon near Ruadh Nyibol village along the road to Mankien.

The driver reportedly lost control of the motorcycle due to excessive speeding, causing the crash.

The deceased who was a passenger on the motorcycle, sustained fatal injuries and died at Mankien Hospital.

The driver, whose name has not been released, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Juba for specialized treatment.

Unity State Traffic Police Director, Domai Dak Kai, speaking to Sudans Post, confirmed the incident and attributed it to speeding.

He stated that the driver’s father has been detained for questioning while investigations into the accident are ongoing.

“The accident happened because of speeding by the motorcycle driver,” Mr. Dak said. “We have detained the father of the driver for questioning until the driver recovers and can provide his account of the incident.”

Dak urged the family of the deceased to remain calm while investigations proceed.

He also issued a strong warning to all motorists in Mayom, emphasizing the dangers of speeding and overloading motorcycles.

“We urge all drivers to be cautious on the roads and avoid speeding,” Mr. Dak stressed. “Motorcycles are only permitted to carry one passenger at a time. Ignoring these safety rules can have tragic consequences.”
