JUBA – A group of angry youth in Aweil West County of South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state is threatening to protest against what it describes as an “unfair recruitments” policy in the non-governmental organizations’ sector.

The move came after a group of youth reported their dispute to paramount chiefs of Aweil West County alleging imbalanced employment in NGOs.

In notification letter addressed to all NGOs Area Coordinators in Aweil West County, Dut Majak Majak alerts the NGOs of upcoming strike.

“It has come to our attention that youth in our county have an intention of forcefully chasing away all citizens from other states and foreigners occupying some positions in different organizations,” Majak said in a notification letter seen by Sudans post.

“We advise them to let their views first be heard by different organization heads before embarking on their planned demonstrations,” Majak added.

He advised the NGOs called for immediate intervention from all stakeholders before the situation gets out of hand.

“We see that these are genuine reasons that need the different stakeholders to sit down and address them before the youths outrage goes out of hand,” he said.

He said the unemployment rate among the youth in his county is high yet because most of the skills and qualifications required are given to citizens from other states.

“As we know that the mandate of all charitable organizations is not to help the local population with peanut paste in form of a sachet of ready to use therapeutic food for their malnourished children but also giving job opportunities to them to help themselves and others indirectly,” he stated.

According to NGO Act, nationals’ most especially local citizens are supposed to constitute a major proportion of the workforce by 80% and foreign nationals 20%.

The Paramount chief said that this has been observed over time and has led to the negligence of local staff being underpowered and unprioritized.

“There are some non-technical positions in different organizations that the local citizens can hold yet they are given to others, for example, assistants officers and project management positions,” he said.
