AWEIL – The Directorate for Reproductive Health in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State has commenced registration of Fistula victims for free surgery starting this month.

The National Health ministry, through Artemedis, is supporting this exercise.

“Therefore, this letter serves to inform Fistula patients, caretakers and the general public that the registration is ongoing at Aweil State Hospital,” partly reads the release from the state health ministry extended to Sudans Post on Friday.

According to the Directorate of Reproductive Health at the ministry, the planned Fistula patients’ surgery starts at Aweil State Hospital in the first week of April, 2024.

Fistula, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) is an abnormal connection or passageway that connects two organs or vessels that do not usually connect. They can develop anywhere between an intestine and the skin, between the vagina and the rectum with the most common location around the anus.
