PORT SUDAN – A non-governmental organization known as WeCare has raised $100,000 to aid recovery efforts in Sudan amid an economic crisis imposed on the country by the nearly year-old civil war between the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army.
The funds, secured through SilverLake Capital, are earmarked for the reconstruction of homes in regions heavily impacted by the ongoing conflict.
The head of the organization, Saad Kassis Mohamed, expressed – in a statement extended to Sudans Post – the organization’s commitment to supporting Sudan during this challenging period.
“In recent months, WeCare has raised a significant amount to assist those displaced by the crisis, providing essential items such as non-perishable food, clothing, and blankets. Efforts are now focused on aiding the reconstruction of homes and communities,” Mohamed remarked.
The initiative comes at a critical time for Sudan, which has been grappling with a deadly conflict since April 15, 2023, between Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
About 13,000 people have been killed and millions uprooted from their homes.
“Our hearts extend to our brothers and sisters in Sudan during this important time of community and compassion,” Mohamed emphasized.
“Through our partnership with SilverLake Capital, we aim to raise awareness and support Sudan in its humanitarian efforts,” he added.
WeCare, founded in 2020, is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting impoverished individuals by enhancing their circumstances through the cultivation of human capital.
Their approach focuses on providing healthcare, nutritional support, and comprehensive training to vulnerable communities, with an emphasis on empowerment through education.
“WeCare firmly believes in the power of education to transform lives and communities,” said Mohamed. “Our partnership with SilverLake Capital underscores our dedication to alleviating suffering and rebuilding communities in times of adversity.”
As Sudan continues to navigate the challenges posed by the crisis, WeCare’s contribution serves as a beacon of hope, reflecting the organization’s unwavering commitment to making a positive impact.”
