AWEIL WEST – Authorities in Aweil West county of Northern Bahr el Ghazal are holding nine men over a land-related violence at Ayat payam over the weekend.

The police inspector, Philip Agany told Sudans Post that the suspects incited youth who instigated the violence following the renaming of land within the payam.

One of the executive chiefs, indentified as Athian Deng Jongkor, allegedly renamed a place as Malek-Jongkor, sparking clashes among area residents.

Agany said Jongkor and the other suspects would be arraigned before court.

“We are holding these men and will be sent to court to justify themselves as we never want fights over land which can cause fights among people,” he added.

The officer urged the public to follow rules and seek justice where necessary.
