Col. Gabriel Ungom, Acting Director of Traffic Police in Northern Bahr el Ghazal, announced the order, giving vehicle owners a one-week ultimatum.
“The state government has mandated that all owners of vehicles with tinted windows remove the tinting due to increasing crimes, such as abductions, where victims disappear without a trace. Some individuals also use tinted vehicles to conceal illicit activities,” he explained.
Ungom emphasised that the directive applies universally, with no exceptions. “No one is above the law. This measure is designed to reduce crime, and neither the elite nor officials are exempt. Tinted windows must be removed to allow easy identification of vehicle occupants in case of incidents,” he stated.
The state has recently experienced a surge in criminal activities, prompting authorities in Aweil South County to launch intensified night patrols targeting groups of young men forming criminal gangs or associations that attack local residents.
In a separate incident, police in Aweil East County reported that a mentally unstable individual allegedly strangled and killed a woman and her young child in Malual-baai Payam last week. The incident shocked the local community, prompting police to issue warnings to residents to remain vigilant against such acts targeting civilians in rural areas.
Some residents of Malual-baai Payam reported that, in response to the killing, an angry mob killed the mentally ill suspect. However, the payam administrator could not be reached for confirmation, as repeated phone calls went unanswered.
