NSS detains 4 over viral audio attributed to Gen. Akol Koor

The National Security Service (NSS) has arrested four people it said are behind a viral audio alleged to be of General Akol Koor speaking of his plans to remove President Salva Kiir Mayardit from power.

JUBA, JUNE 25, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – The National Security Service (NSS) has arrested four people it said are behind a viral audio alleged to be of General Akol Koor speaking of his plans to remove President Salva Kiir Mayardit from power.

In the audio circulating on WhatsApp, someone who identified himself as Akol Koor could be heard speaking of his plans aimed at undermining the leadership of President Kiir with the latest being “selling” the president to a witchcraft.

In reaction, the National Security Service dismissing the authenticity of the audio and said it was working to bring those behind the audio into account.

In a statement on Saturday, the intelligence agency said it has identified those behind the audio and that they will be taken to court to answer for their “crimes”.

“As you may be aware the National Security Service – Internal Security Bureau (ISB) recently released a press statement denouncing the malicious audio recordings claiming to have been made by the Director General. Gen. Akol Koor Kuc vying for leadership against his President, using spiritual powers,” it said.

“As promised, the ISB has conducted thorough investigation into the matter, identified, located, and apprehended individuals responsible for perpetrating such heinous acts against our respectable institution and its leadership,” it added.

The statement identified those behind the audio as Mayom Kur Mum, the mastermind, Makol Atem, Mawien Deng, and Marial Madut.

“As a law-abiding institution, the NSS will open a case and present these suspects to the court of law to answer their crimes. This press statement therefore serves as an accountability process in the legal proceedings of the case,” the statement said.
