Several journalists who gathered during the early hours of Wednesday at the premise of Association for Media Development in South Sudan (ADMISS) told Sudans Post that National Security Service officers came in and told them to shut down the press conference because they lacked security clearance from the media authority.
“When they arrived, we were already set to begin the press conference. The conference was supposed to ask the government to maintain our role in the permanent constitution-making process as provided for in the agreement,” on journalist who refused not to be named said on phone from Juba.
“We were not doing anything wrong and we were not rebelling against the government. But when they came, they just told use to get out and close the conference. One of them said ‘”You guys, sorry for the inconvenience. Get out…..get out…get out,’ without us not knowing the reasons behind their coming,” the journalist said.
For his part, activist Wani Michael confirmed that “Security personnel stormed and stopped a press conference at AMDISS Office organize by the media on their critical role in the Permanent Constitution making process.”
