Eastern Equatoria State police spokesperson Justine Cleopas Takur told Sudans Post in a phone call this morning that the ambush took place between Lobira in Ikotos County and Tuhubak in Torit County.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Neu Louis Saturlino, was traveling in a convoy with nine others, including 42-year-old Sudanese engineer Mohamed Ismail Mohamed, on a mission to assess the Juba-Nadapal highway.
“They were actually travelling to assess the Juba-Nadapal highway, and he was attached to the convoy conducting the assessment, but before they arrived, they were attacked,” Takur said.
Local law enforcement agencies were dispatched to the area to investigate the ambush, Takur confirmed, adding that the injured engineer is currently receiving treatment at Torit Civil Hospital.
Construction on the Juba-Nadapal Highway, halted in 2020, recently resumed, prompting new security assessments along the route.
