JUBA – A group of community leaders claiming to be representing the BNFA (Bentiu, Nasir, Fangak Akobo) and who are allied to ex-SPLA-IO general Ochan Puot have condemned the SPLM-IO led by opposition leader Riek Machar for rejection the 32 states.
Last week, SPLM-IO officials held a press conference in Juba and said they disagree with a South African proposal for arbitration on the number and boundaries of states.
The main armed opposition group further called for the deployment of a UN regional protection force to guarantee security in Juba and other towns if it is to participate in the transitional government due to be established in February.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the group of Nuer community leaders said they condemns Machar’s rejection of the 32 states saying the 2016 division of the country into many states was in line with a long-overdue demand of the people of South Sudanese of taking town to the people.
“We condemns Riek Machar’s rejection of 32 states,” the leaders who are also allied to ex-SPLA-IO commander Gen. Ochan Puot said in a statement this morning. “This is in line with the demand of the South Sudanese people to take town to the people.”
