JUBA – South Sudan’s Minister of Petroleum Puot Kang Chuol has directed the Sudd Petroleum Company (SPOC) to relocate from Unity State, by 10th August, a virtually impaired student who is to be placed on a government scholarship abroad, according to the minister’s press secretary.
The student identified as George Gatluak Lok was recently seen in a video circulating online leading a group of students protesting outside the SPOC compound at Tharjiath oilfield to demand payment for teachers in order to motivate them and continue teaching.
In a statement, Sirir Gabriel Yei Ruot, the press secretary for the minister the office of the minister has directed the SPOC to relocate the student to Juba where he will complete preparations for travel to one of the neighboring countries where he will complete his education.
“As a gesture of goodwill, the Ministry of Petroleum has instructed Sudd Petroleum Operating Company L.t.d (SPOC) to transport the blind student by the name of George Gatkuoth Lok from Koch County, Unity State to Juba before the 10th of August 2022,” Sirir said in a statement.
“He should come with his Guardians (mother, one of his siblings and another relative) deemed fit to take care of him during his stay in the school. George Gatkuoth Lok has been placed on a full scholarship in one of the neighboring countries till he finishes his university,” he added.
