JUBA – At least one person was killed, five others were wounded, and 500 cattle were raided during an attack on Thursday in Uror County, Jonglei State.

Nyamar Lony Thichot, Jonglei State Minister of Information, said the attack was carried out by suspected armed youth from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.

“On Thursday, December 5, 2024, around 4 pm in the evening, Murle armed criminals from Greater Pibor Administrative Area attacked Parmai village, Weykol Payam in Uror County,” Lony said in a statement issued on Friday.

Lony said two people sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment at Yuai Hospital in Uror County.

“This heinous incident resulted in the death of one person, five people wounded who are currently in the hospital in Yuai, where two people are in a critical situation, and more than 500 herds of cattle raided.”

She said suspected armed youth from Greater Pibor abducted a six-month-old baby from her mother on December 3.

“Furthermore, on December 3, 2024, the Murle armed criminals from GAPP abducted a six-month-old baby from the mother traveling in the area between Waat Payam in Nyirol County, to Walgak in Akobo West.”

He urged the authorities of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area to order their youth from the areas of Jonglei State to return to their home of origin to restore peace between the two neighbors.

“The Government of Jonglei State condemns in the strongest terms possible these attacks of cattle raiding and killing carried out by Murle armed criminals from the neighboring Greater Pibor Administrative Area, on the People of Jonglei State.”

She said the Jonglei State reiterated its commitment to peace with the Greater Pibor Administrative Area and called upon their youth to do the same.
