Lakes State police spokesman Major Elijah Mabor Makuac told Sudans Post that the incident occurred at Alau cattle camp, where an argument between two young men escalated into a physical fight.
“According to the information, these two young men quarreled somewhere,” Makuac said. “One of them went and laid an ambush, attacking the other when he went to look for a lost cow.”
Makuac said the initial fight involved sticks, but the situation worsened when others intervened.
“The victim then used a firearm, shooting his attacker,” Makuac explained. “He was then shot back at and died.”
Makuac said the conflict continued, resulting in injuries to others.
Authorities intervened, sending security forces to control the situation and apprehend those involved.
“One person was arrested immediately at the cattle camp,” Makuac said. “A second suspect who initially fled was apprehended by police yesterday evening and is currently under arrest.”
Makuac identified those involved as belonging to the Pan Gop sub-clan of the Duor section and the Pan Nyar section.
The police spokesman urged residents of Lakes State to avoid using firearms in response to non-lethal threats.
“If you are attacked with sticks, it’s better to use a stick yourself for self-defense,” Makuac said. “Don’t use rifles or guns. Using a stick may injure someone, but it’s less likely to be fatal. Using a firearm is a crime.”
