In a statement extended to Sudans Post, Brigadier General Sebit Abdelgadir Bol said he resigned to protest the impediments in the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement – especially on the security arrangements provided for in the 2018 peace deal – which would see the rival forces being put together to form a professional national army.
“In reference to the above mentioned subject, I Brigadier General Sebit Abdelgadir Bol, after I had learnt and witnessed inevitable frustration in “Rambur Senior Officers’ Training Center” for almost three years and I have seen the security arrangements is not being implemented as stipulated by the agreement which is of course considered as a lack of nationalism and patriotism in the country,” he said in the statement extended to Sudans Post.
“Therefore, I brigadier general Sebit Abdelgadir Bol have officially presented my resignation letter to my political party FDP and declared my full allegiance to Kit-Gwang Declaration under the leadership of General Simon Gatwech Dual, the interim chairman and Commander in Chief, SPLM/A (IO),” he added.
This comes after Chair of Human Rights Commission in South Sudan Yasmin Sooka told Human Rights Council that the security situation in the world’s youngest country was deteriorating because of the delay by the peace parties to bring together their forces and command to form a one national army.
Violence has been ongoing in Tambura County of Western Equatoria state between local armed groups allegedly supported by South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) led by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army in Opposition (SPLM/SPLA-IO) led by First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar Teny.
Sooka on September 23 said “Nine out of the ten States in South Sudan is engulfed in violence. Recently, the deadly ethnic clashes between the Azande and Balanda communities in Tambura, in Western Equatoria resulted in the massacre of more than 100 civilians, with women and children raped and sexually violated, before being killed.”
She said “The South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army/In Opposition (SPLA/IO have) are responsible for arming the Azande and Balanda communities. South Sudan’s leaders and political elites are active participants and enablers of this violence.”
