KHARTOUM, APRIL 17, 2023 (SUDANS POST) – South Sudan’s opposition National Democratic Movement (NDM) led by Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin has expressed concerns over the situation in Sudan and said that its leader is safe amid fighting in the capital Khartoum and other areas.

Sudan on Saturday woke up to a deadly fighting in the capital Khartoum after the militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF) led by deputy chair of transitional sovereign council Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo launched attacks on army positions.

In an email to Sudans Post, NDM spokesman Mahmoud Akot urged the parties to the conflict in Sudan to exercise restraint in order to save the life of the Sudanese people and commended President Kiir’s initiative to mediate between the warring generals.

“We are watching with great concern the developments in the situation in Sudan, and we call on all Sudanese parties to exercise maximum restraint in order to protect the lives and capabilities of the brotherly Sudanese people,” Akot said.

“I also commend the initiative taken by His Excellency President Salva Kiir to offer mediation to resolve the dispute between the two rivals, as it is a leadership role that highlights the status of South Sudan in the region and its efforts to maintain security and stability in the region,” he added.

He further r said that Dr. Lam Akol, who has been in Khartoum since nearly three years ago is safe.

“Since the outbreak of the clashes in Sudan, I have received many calls from fans of Dr. Lam Akol, wanting to check his status in Khartoum,” he said. “So, I would like to reassure all South Sudanese that our leader, Lam Akol, is safe and well.”
