Yesterday, opposition leader Peter Mayen Majokdit was claimed that because he negotiated and signed the revitalized peace agreement on behalf of the OPP, he has a prerogative to nominate group’s representatives to various positions in the government.
When contacted by Sudans Post this afternoon, Albino Akol Atak, the parties’ spokesperson described Peter Mayen’s statement as baseless.
“His claims are baseless and are meant just to confuse the public but the reality is that he is being supported by individuals with the [former] ITGONU and this is why he is behaving like that. This is why he exactly rejected joining his colleagues in the process- assuming that what he will do later will be supported by some individuals, and exactly this is what has happened,” he said.
“So the confusion or wrangling you guys are now hearing is not within the OPP or is outside of the OPP. When OPP decided, some people went and thought differently and they wanted to enforce on OPP,” Akol explained.
The parties’ spokesperson accused Majokdit of making decisions on his own without consulting with the members of the parties.
“First of all OPP has no one leader, this is the fact that existed since the negotiation time, up to now, there is no single person that is being called as a leader of OPP. What is there since the negotiation is that six signatories signed the agreement on behalf of OPP,” he said.
In October, the leadership of the OPP nominated its members who would serve as deputy governors in three states of Central Equatoria, Warrap and Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, but were informed later by the presidency that the names have been replaced by Peter Mayen.
