JUBA – A number of senior members of the opposition South Sudan United Movement (SSUM) from Upper Nile State have threatened to sue their Chairman, Denay Jock Chagor, who is also the governor of Jonglei state, over fraudulent appointment to national and state governments.

The group accused Denay of illegally appointing his family members and friends and neglected to appoint their members mainly from Upper Nile State.

“Denay has been imperatively selecting his close family members and friends to occupy vacancies that were allocated to members of Upper Nile State,” the group said in a petition letter addressed to Hussein Abdelbagi Akol, Vice President Service Cluster and head of South Sudan Opposition Alliances.

The members of Upper Nile condemned and reject this unlawful and fraudulent nomination of their members to state and national government by Denay, they said.

The group called on Abdelbagi Akol, head of Opposition Alliances to tackle their grievances, warning that any failure to address it will lead to court.

“Denay, Chairman of SSUM and SSUAF must be held accountable for dishonesty, political corruption, fraudulent behaviors, discrimination and summon him for absolute legal answers before authority,” they said.

“Our members’ permitted SSOA leadership for a fair and just settlement, any further disagreement between us and Denay will be registered under Supreme Court of South Sudan for final settlement,” the group added.

They demanded suspension of recently announced members of parliament that were illegally appointed to represent Upper Nile State by Denay.

“We want our three positions from Upper Nile state government to be retrieved and return to us. We need our power-sharing positions in national and state-independent commission including pending,” they said.

They accused Denay of committing numerous political corruptions, violation of the national constitution, and multiply violation of party manifesto.

“We are anxious to obtain details of power-sharing ratios that emphasized within SSOA power-sharing guideline. The loyal members SSUM and SSUAF from Upper Nile State has been neglected, rejected, and demoted under the leadership of Denay,” the group stated.

“Our members have faithfully submitted several lists of their qualified candidates who were determined and eligible for national and states government positions were trashed by Denay without any explanation,” they added.
