BENTIU – The leadership of the Bentiu IDP camp’s Community High Committee has verified that 2,039 individuals with disabilities, visual impairments, and elderly members received vital financial support following extensive collaboration with the humanitarian food agency Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) within the civilian protection site.
Marina Nyareek Gatjiek, chairwoman of the Bentiu IDP camp, highlighted that exactly 2,039 highly vulnerable individuals received cash assistance, aiding them in procuring essential items such as food grinding equipment and purchasing footwear.
“As the community chairlady, my efforts in engaging with Welt Hunger Hilfe aimed to provide financial aid to the most vulnerable, facilitating the purchase of food grinding essentials and footwear, particularly for those who lack proper footwear, enabling them to alleviate their struggle in collecting firewood for cooking,” she told Sudans Post on Friday.
She emphasized that each recipient got 4,000 South Sudanese pounds, with a commitment to continue this support for a period of 12 months.
Among the beneficiaries, Gatpan Maluit, one of the vulnerable individuals, expressed his gratitude, intending to utilize the funds to purchase slippers and enable food grinding.
“Though it may seem modest, this amount will aid me in acquiring slippers and grinding food today, while ensuring some support for the days ahead,” she added.
Similarly, Nyaken Nhial, a 19-year-old disabled schoolgirl, outlined her plan to utilize the money for purchasing exercise books, addressing her current shortage of pens and books.
“I will strictly allocate this money to purchase exercise books and pens, fulfilling a critical need that I currently lack,” mentioned Nhial.
The humanitarian partner Welt Hunger Hilfe (WHH) affirmed their distribution of cash aid to 2,039 extremely vulnerable individuals within the civilian protection site.
They pledged continued assistance for a year, without disclosing the exact amount distributed to the vulnerable population at the Bentiu IDP camp.
