JUBA – About 6,036 have been displaced following recent clashes between the holdout group of National Salvation Front (NAS) and South Sudan People’s Defense Forces in Mundri East of Western Equatoria State.
Speaking to reporters in Yambio on Monday, Thomas Aringa Paul, Acting Chairperson of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Yambio said displaced victims are stranded at Rokon in Central Equatoria and lacking food and shelter
“We have an incident in Minga in Mundri East where more than 6,036 ran from Minga to Rokon in Central Equatoria State and there are about 1048 households and they are right now in Rokon,” Aringa said.
Aringa urged both the Central Equatoria and Western Equatoria States governments to join hands with humanitarian actors to assist the vulnerable with food, shelter and medication.
“The IDPs in Rokon demand relocation from Rokon because Rokon is a dry area without wild fruits and you know organizations sometimes don’t respond on time,” he said.
He said the displaced persons mostly women, children and elderly only survive on Mango
“They are stranded with no food and they are depending right now in Rokon on Mango. Their lives are very difficult, we need the government with the contribution of organizations to intervene in this case,” he said.
According to the RRC Chairperson, the displaced persons have gone for almost two weeks without assistance.
He said they were displaced following the clashes between SSPDF and NAS three weeks ago.
It’s the fighting between the government and NAS
That means the government is responsible for any assistance to the displaced community
