In a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Friday, Oyet praised the citizens for being law-abiding and for celebrating the festive season in a peaceful and cheerful manner.
“This year’s celebrations were notably different. I commend the citizens of South Sudan for their exemplary conduct and for being great law-abiding subjects,” Oyet said.
He expressed gratitude to the security forces for their role in ensuring peace and stability across the country during the festive period.
“We did not hear tuek tuek. I am grateful for the law-abiding citizens and the role played by all the security forces throughout the country. There was no politically motivated violence whatsoever,” Oyet stated.
Oyet shared his happiness at witnessing citizens traveling safely across the country, even at night, mentioning towns such as Magwi, Torit, Bor, Rumbek, and Wau.
“It’s heartwarming to see vehicles leaving these towns in the evening and traveling throughout the night to their respective destinations,” he said.
The deputy speaker emphasized that South Sudan must replace war with a “peace dividend” and prioritize justice, equality, human rights, democracy, rule of law, good governance, prosperity, and development.
“The year 2025 looks peaceful and promising. We should strive to be productive and innovative,” he added.
