AWEIL – The Deputy Chairperson of Peace and Reconciliation Commission in Northern Bahr el Ghazal state, Atong Leek Lual, is dead.

She collapsed and instantly died on Monday, family sources told Sudans Post.

The deceased did not complain of any illness and normally discharged her duties.

“Atong is reported to have gone to her residence and fell down and died immediately. Preparations are now ongoing to make the burial services in the ancestral home in Aweil West county,” said one family source.

Many, however, described the deceased as a smart and God-fearing person.

“This woman stands firm in situations of those who are downtrodden. One of the activist was arrested, but Atong ridiculed the governor for not showing forgiveness and her plea to release the activist led to the release of the incarcerated fellow,” a source recalled.

Several condolence messages came from staff of the commission and the public.
