JUBA – South Sudanese political activist, Peter Biar Ajak has threatened to campaign for the removal of South Sudan President Kiir if he fails to hold elections in 2022.
Biar issued this threat after the office of the president said it will not be in a position to conduct general elections in 2022 as envisioned in the peace deal.
The state house argues that elections cannot be conducted without a permanent constitution and a population census.
“Hold the elections, do whatever you need to do but implement the agreement by holding elections or by that time we will demand Liberian model, just like Charles Taylor was remove, Kiir will be removed, I assured you,” Ajak said in recorded video message seen by Sudans Post.
Ajak said President Kiir’s administration lacks legitimacy from the electorates since the country last conducted elections in April 2010.
“You (South Sudanese) have an illegitimate regime that was never elected by the people of South Sudan that want to use the conflict as an excuse to rule the country forever. This is not the first time, this is why elections were extended in 2015 and 2018 and now they are arguing for another extension,” he said.
“They don’t want to hold elections because the country is in conflict and the peace agreement is yet to be implemented but they deliberately create the conflict and drag their feet when it comes to the implementation of the agreement,” he disclosed.
