ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has reportedly returned to the front lines just hours after rebel forces loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) allegedly re-took control of UNESCO World Heritage site Lalibela.
Lalibela is a town in the Amhara region and a United Nations World Heritage site.
Tigrayan forces recaptured Lalibela on Sunday afternoon just less than two weeks after government forces and their regional allies took control, witnesses told Reuters on Sunday.
A security source in Addis Ababa said that he was told the Prime Minister was back in the evening to the front lines.
“I was told so,” he said. “I think he let this evening.”
