JUBA – Police authorities in Nimule Payam of Eastern Equatoria state on Thursday morning arrested a man after making threats to kill a local lawyer who had won a case against the former’s family who had accused three Ugandans of killing their son.

Victor Bulla, the lawyer, said the man only identified as Bair had opened a court case along with his family against three Ugandan traders they accused of killing their son, a police officer, who was found dead 20 meters away from a business premise operated by Ugandans.

“The complainant went and opened a murder case under – that they [Ugandans] were the ones who killed their relative,” Bulla is quoted by The City Review as saying.

The lawyer said that the three men appeared in court, but were then acquitted because of lack of evidence in their involvement in the killing of Bair’s relative, but the later went on to threaten all lawyers involved in the defense of the accused.

“Recordings of the phone threats have been taken to the director of Public Prosecutions in Nimule. The man behind the threats has been arrested and is expected to appear in court to answer charges of threat, intimidation and to cause harm to a lawyer,” he said.

“People treat us [lawyers] as if we are enemies. Because of that, we are becoming targets,” he added.
