AWERIAL – Police authorities in Lakes State confirmed the arrest of two men on Tuesday, suspected of defiling a 12-year-old girl in Awerial County on Wednesday.

According to Lakes State Police spokesman, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac, the incident occurred during a marriage ceremony at the victim’s home.

Due to a lack of sleeping space, male visitors were accommodated in the same room as the young girls, leading to what the police described as “the unthinkable” act.

“The young girl has been issued Form-8 and is currently receiving medical attention at the Mingkaman Primary Health Care Center (PHCC),” Makuac told Sudans Post.

He also issued a warning to parents, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of young girls at all times.

“No matter what, girls cannot be put in the same room with males, even if they are related. Let’s protect our children,” he said.

Grace Gire Moi, the officer in charge at Mingkaman PHCC, confirmed the severity of the girl’s condition.

“She was brought in very early in the morning but was in a critical condition due to excessive bleeding from cervical and physical tears. We have referred her to Juba for further advanced care,” she said.

The police continue to investigate the incident, and further details are expected as the case progresses.
