RUMBEK – Police in South Sudan’s Lakes State have arrested an officer who shot and injured three people in Rumbek on Monday.
The state police spokesman, Maj. Elijah Mabor Makuac said the incident occurred when two people clashed over a business deal.
He said a man had given his motorbike to another person with the hope that money would be paid for all services rendered by the bike.
Mabor said the bike owner called police after money was not paid.
“Finally, the owner of the motorbike decided to call the police and he happened to fight this person under influence of alcohol. He was actually drunk, but the complainant was not aware. He just called him so that this person is apprehended and taken to police,” he said.
Mabor further said the officer opened fire, injured three people and hid on learning he committed a crime.
“He shot one person on the side, the other person on the leg and the other person at his mouth,” he explained.
The injured, the spokesperson said, are admitted at Rumbek hospital.
The officer, Mabor said, is wanted for deserting duty in Maper in July.
He urged citizens not to take the law in their hands when in problems.
