JUBA – South Sudan police authorities in the country’s Jonglei state are detaining a man who allegedly poisoned her own lactating wife after disagreement over a piece of land that belongs to the wife.
Jonglei State police commissioner Maj. Gen. Elia Costa said the suspect, Kur Makuei, allegedly injected his wife identified as Abuk Dier, 27, after the dispute with an unknown substance resulting in her death which happened on Tuesday last week.
“The man (suspect) is a doctor. He injected his wife with medicine, so the medicine resulted in the death of that woman who is his wife. She is a 27-year-old housewife who has four kids,” Maj. Gen. Costa is quoted by Eye Radio as saying.
The senior police officer further revealed that a preliminary investigation by the police indicates that Makuei, 46, and his wife Dier, a mother of four, had disagreement because the former sold his wife’s land without seeking consent first.
“We opened a case against him for murder and he is under investigation now. We want to collect the information first to transmit the case to the court,” she said.
