
JUBA—The South Sudan National Police Service on Tuesday reported approximately 23 deaths and 14 injuries in the last 24 hours.
Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson for the South Sudan National Police Service, said in his summary of the security situation.
Nhial said violent clashes between the Kuei clan and the Pan-Arek clan in Alabek village of Tonj North County left 10 people dead and injured 12 others.
“On January 13th at around 3:00 PM, fighting broke out between the Muok clan and the Thony clan in Mayen village of Tonj South County. This conflict resulted in the deaths of 6 individuals from both sides,” said Nhial.
A criminal case has been opened in the Tonj South County police division, and the investigation is ongoing, Col. Nhial said.
He also revealed that a 50-year-old woman was beaten to death with a stick by a 32-year-old man in Panliet village of Gogrial West County on January 13, 2025, at around 8:45 PM.
He disclosed that a criminal case has been opened in the Gogrial West County police division, and the suspect has been arrested; the investigation is ongoing.
“The states and administrative areas have reported mostly criminal cases and isolated incidents related to social violence. However, the overall crime rate has decreased today compared to previous statistics. We are planning to increase the number of forces in areas with higher crime rates,” he added.
He added that in the Ruweng Administrative Area, unknown armed cattle raiders suspected to have come from Unity State attacked a cattle camp at Akamal Village of Jaw County on 13th Jan at around 1:30 pm.
He said the incident resulted in the injury of 2 cattle owners, adding that the attackers raided 45 herds of cattle, but the cattle were retrieved back by the armed youth.
“The victims were admitted to Ruweng hospital for medical treatment. A criminal case was opened in the Jaw County police division, and the investigation is going on”.
“A dead body of a 5-year-old child was found in the stream at Marial-Ajiith boma of Jur River County in Western Bahr Al Gazal State on 13th Jan 2025 at around 6:30 pm, and the incident was reported to Jur River police by her mother, and the investigation is going on.”
He said police in Western Barh El Ghazal have arrested 3 doctors. On 13th Jan, after a 33-year-old female went to a private clinic called Get-well for medical surgery, unfortunately, she passed away during the surgery.
He added that a 50-year-old male teacher in Eastern Equatoria State committed suicide by drinking rat poison at Hai Malakia east of Nimule town.
“The motive behind suicide was due to family affairs. A criminal case was opened in the Nimule police division, and an investigation is going on.”
He said that a dead body of a 25-year-old civilian was found in a container’s site near Juba International Airport Road.
“On 13 Jan 2025, at around 6:00 pm, a dead body of a 35-year-old male was found inside his house in the Gudele Block 4 residential area. The cause of his death isn’t yet established by the police,” he said.
“On the same day at around 9:15 pm, a 42-year-old male was shot and injured in both legs by unknown armed criminals in his house in the Amadi Block 2 residential area. The victim was transported to the hospital for medical treatment by sector 5 forces.
He revealed that a 15-year-old boy was assaulted by gangsters on 13th Jan at around 11:00 am, using pangas in Suk Darfur of the new site residential area, and died later on due to injuries.
“A criminal case was opened in the New Site police division, and the police are still pursuing the suspects.”
