JUBA — The South Sudan National Police Service has registered over 10 deaths across the country in the last five days.

Col. John Kassara Koang Nhial, spokesperson for the South Sudan National Police Service, revealed this in summary of the General Security Situation recorded from January 7 to January 12, 2025.

Nhial stated that the states and administrative areas have recorded various offenses, primarily criminal cases and isolated incidents related to social violence.

“On January 11, 2025, at around 12:24 a.m., unknown armed criminals from Bentiu shot dead three individuals in Dolanga village, Aliny County. A criminal case has been opened at the Aliny County police division, and an investigation is ongoing,” Col. Nhial reported in his security update on Monday.

He also noted that on January 12, 2025, at approximately 1:25 p.m., unknown armed cattle raiders from Bentiu shot and killed two people and injured two others in Aliny County.

He said the raiders also stole 518 herds of cattle belonging to a Sudanese community before being recovered by the SSPDF.

A criminal case has been initiated at the Aliny County police division, and an investigation is ongoing, he said.

Col. Nhial disclosed that 21-year-old female committed suicide by hanging herself in her home in War Laac village, Awiel West County on January 7, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m.

“On January 7, 2025, at around 4:00 p.m., a group of organized gangs fought among themselves, resulting in the death of a 21-year-old man in an IDP camp in Bentiu. The deceased was reportedly stabbed by another 21-year-old man. A criminal case has been initiated at the Bentiu police station, and an investigation is ongoing,” he explained.

He further reported that a 45-year-old male civilian was killed on January 7 by a 22-year-old male civilian in Deri village, near Jebel Ladu.

This incident was reported to Gudele police on January 12, 2025, at around 11:50 a.m.  The suspect surrendered to the local chief and was subsequently handed over to the police; an investigation is ongoing, he said.

“On January 8, 2025, at around 9:30 p.m., a 35-year-old male was shot and injured by unidentified armed criminals in the Kuda area of Luri Payam, Juba County, while moving cattle to another camp. On the same day, at around 4:00 p.m., a 20-year-old female fell off a motorcycle and died in Awiel East County. A case has been opened, and the investigation is ongoing,” he added.

He also mentioned that a 36-year-old man was shot dead by unidentified armed youths from the Panagok community in Nyang Payam, Gogrial East County, on January 8 at around 4:00 p.m.

The incident is believed to be related to revenge killing.

“On January 8, a body identified as that of a 66-year-old male Sudanese national, who used to burn charcoal in Malakal, was found south of the UNMISS camp in Malakal. The cause of death is suspected to be cholera infection.”

“The body was handed over to the Sudanese business community for burial. On the same day, at around 8:00 p.m., two youths fought in Nasir County, resulting in the death of a 55-year-old man. One of the suspects, a 34-year-old, was arrested and is currently under investigation,” he concluded.
