The calls came a week after the conclusion of the Jonglei-Pibor Peace Conference in Juba on Wednesday.
Abraham Kuol Nyuon, professor of political science at the University of Juba, said that the tribunal should comprise traditional chiefs from Jonglei and Pibor.
“The government need to come up with anti-cattle raiding, anti-child abduction policy or maybe act and that one will empower the issues of coming up with a combined tribunal that is comprised of traditional chiefs across borders of these communities,” Kuol told the reporter of the Sudans Post in a telephone interview yesterday.
Nyuon stressed the need for the government to deploy security forces in two areas to mitigate the issues of cattle theft and child abduction.
“Then the government needs to back it up with security. The government needs to take up a strategy measures by trying to say that whoever is found trying to steal other people’s cattle, it will be a matter of the government taking care of the issue,” he expressed.
“If the law is there then the chiefs are empowered to try these people and back up by security mechanism from the government then that one will be able to reduce the level of some issues,” he added.
President Salva Kiir warned the people of Jonglei and Pibor against another ethnic clash in the region, of repeated deadly clashes, saying he wouldn’t send security to calm the situation.
