NAIROBI (AGENCIES) – While speaking on Wednesday December 7 at Kamukunji grounds in Nairobi the former premier called out President William Ruto for suspending the four commissioners and vowed to destroy any plans by Ruto to have his conduits run any forthcoming elections in the country.
Like the Arab Spring, the Azimio team under Raila Odinga started revolt rallies on Wednesday to hold the Kenya Kwanza regime accountable on a number of issues.
During the rally in Kamukunji grounds, Azimio listed 11 demands it wants President William Ruto and his administration to address.
They accused Ruto of abandoning the agenda his government was elected on, inability to reduce the cost of basic goods, removal of school fees subsidies and social safety to the elderly in the form of cash transfers.
Azimio called on Kenyans to pressurise Ruto and his regime to also adhere to the rule of law, restore the Kazi Mtaani project and drop plans to import GMO crops and seeds among other demands.
While pointing out that Raila will not relent on the push against Ruto, Ngunyi cautioned that the rallies have a huge potential of turning out like the Arab uprising.
“This is how the Arab Spring started. Raila’s strategy is to destabilize Ruto the way Ruto disorganised Uhuru. Raila has nothing to lose,” Ngunyi said.
The Arab Spring started in Tunisia in the early 2010s in response to corruption and economic downtown before spreading to Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Syria and Bahrain.
Rulers of those countries were eventually deposed following sustained street protests and riots.
Tunisia’s Zine El Abidine Ben Ali fled to Saudi Arabia, Libya’s Muammar Gaddafi was killed, Hosni Mubarak of Egypt was toppled while Ali Abdullah Saleh of Yemen resigned in February 2012.
