JUBA – South Sudan President Salva Kiir Mayardit on Saturday met prominent Egyptian businessman Ahmed El Sewedy and the two discuss different business projects in South Sudan, according to a statement by the presidency.

“Friday 11th June 2021- His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit received and met with Mr. Ahmed Elsewedy, a prominent Egyptian Businessman and owner of Elsewedy Group,” the presidency statement reads in part.

The statement said that Kiir and the visiting Egyptian businessman “shared their perspectives on various business opportunities in South Sudan and suggested ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between the business communities of South Sudan and Egypt.”

Egypt is a close South Sudan political and diplomatic ally. The North African country has increased its material donations to South Sudan in recent years.
