On Friday afternoon, student protests broke out at the main campus of the University of Juba calling for government to address corruption which they blamed for the ongoing economic crisis.
Speaking to Sudans Post on Sunday, one of the organizers of the Friday protest said five people, all of them students, were arrested by the National Security Service as a well as a journalist he didn’t identify.
“Five of our colleagues have been arrested by the national security. There is a journalist who is also arrested because he covered the protest,” the student who refused not to be named told Sudans Post from Juba this morning.
“We are still on the plan to continue the protest. We are mobilizing more people across all campuses of the University and we welcome the general public because this economic issue if not thwarted, it will affect us all and everything including studies, will be shutdown because at some points the government will not be able o pay lecturers,” he added.
