JUBA – South Sudan’s Jonglei State minister of information, John Samuel Manyuon has suspended Radio Jonglei 95.9 for allegedly undermining the state leadership.

In a ministerial order issued on Wednesday, Manyuon said the Radio has been suspended for internationally supplanting and superseding the government protocols.

“I Hon. John Samuel Manyuon, Minister of Information and Communication of Jonglei State do hereby issue this ministerial order No.001/2022 for suspension of Radio Jonglei 95.9 for internationally supplanting and superseding the government protocols and undermining the state leadership,” read part of the ministerial order.

On 24th August 2021, National security shuts down the popular Radio Jonglei over claims that the People’s Coalition for Civil Action (PCCA) is using the station to promote anti-government protest plans.

Three journalists including the station’s manager were briefly detained during the operation.

On September 25, 2021, the popular station resumed operations under strict censorship following a month-long shutdown.
